Egypt’s accession to international and regional mechanisms to defend women

The National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms organized a side event within the United Nations on the sidelines of the Universal Periodic Review, which witnessed Egypt’s review of its human rights file in Geneva. The event addressed the issue of Egypt’s accession to international and regional agreements related to the protection of women in light of economic and social rights.
The National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms participates in the 48th session of the Universal Periodic Review in Geneva from January 20 to 31, 2025. Egypt had presented its human rights file before the International Human Rights Council on January 28.
The side event was attended by Mr. Walid Farouk, Chairman of the National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms, Mr. Shadi Amin, Chairman of the Al-Haq Foundation for Freedom of Opinion, Expression and Human Rights, and Ms. Samia Maleki, Coordinator of the Solidarity Alliance for African Women’s Rights for North Africa, participated remotely. The extent of the Egyptian state’s commitment to international and regional agreements to protect women was discussed within the framework of economic and social rights.
