Floods threaten people and destroy human civilization in Sudan

The country of Sudan is witnessing a wave of unprecedented floods that the country has not seen from many years ago, which threatens the lives of thousands of Sudanese families, as the level of the Nile level reached 17.65 meters, exceeding the highest in its history of 17.26 recorded in 1946, which left behind more than 133 people who were killed. The floods that hit 16 Sudanese states during the past weeks.

 

The National Association for Defending Rights and Freedoms and the “Save Lives” campaign warns of a humanitarian catastrophe that the Sudanese people are facing now from the blockade of flood waters for homes and villages completely, which threatens the spread of diseases in abundance with the spread of mosquitoes. We cannot forget that the whole world is suffering during this period from the spread of the Covid epidemic _19 (Corona), which paves the way for its spread due to the overwhelming chaos and the siege of stagnant water in many cities and villages.

 

The National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms commends the rapid action of countries that rushed to send medical and food aid to the Sudanese people who need more aid to avoid more risks to which they are exposed, which prompted the Egyptian government to send aid, the Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and a number of European and Asian countries. We call on everyone to extend a helping hand to the Sudanese people in this humanitarian circumstance.

 

In light of this, the National Association for Defending Rights and Freedoms called on all signatories and adherents to the campaign (Save Lives .. Save Africa) to solidarity with the Sudanese people and to export letters to their governments to contribute positively, help and rescue the Sudanese people who are facing a humanitarian disaster. It includes 310 organizations and public figures from 21 different nationalities from Africa, Asia and Europe.

 

The National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms appeals to UNESCO and all organizations working in the field of antiquities and human heritage to quickly provide support to the Sudanese government in order to save the Sudanese antiquities from drowning and preserve the human history that is now being destroyed and drowned by floods that pose a threat to humans and to human civilization in Sudan We also appeal to the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities to lend a hand to Sudan in providing logistical services to the Sudanese government to protect antiquities and to develop a rapid plan to save the Sudanese antiquities. The National Assembly and its partners in Africa will also send letters to UNESCO in order to save the human heritage in Sudan, in solidarity with the permanent mission of Sudan that launched an appeal Urgently for international organizations to aid those affected by the torrents.

 

The National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms calls on the African Union to quickly put in place urgent plans to save the situation in order to reconstruct Sudan and take urgent measures to provide medical services to protect the Sudanese people from diseases that are expected to spread as a result of stagnant water, besieging homes and displacing thousands of families there, as we demand the Arab League To hold a meeting at the level of foreign ministers in order to discuss the situation in Sudan and contribute to providing aid and sending mobile hospitals and medical teams to Sudan. The World Health Organization also calls for a speedy intervention to protect the Sudanese people from the dangers of epidemics that the Sudanese cities are exposed to as a result of the floods that hit the country and destroyed about 100,000 homes. The National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms, in cooperation with the Al-Haq Foundation for Freedom of Opinion and Expression, and Human Rights in Cairo follows up all events and maintains constant contact with many of our friends in Sudan and with civil society organizations in many African countries in order to save the Sudanese people from the humanitarian disaster and in a permanent discussion to take many Of other measures, if necessary
