National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms: Promoting Electoral Integrity: Cancellation of 45 Constituencies Affirms the State’s Commitment to the Rule of Law
The National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms affirms that the decision to cancel the election results in 45 out of 70 constituencies in the first phase is a sound legal procedure that reflects the strength of the constitutional and legislative framework regulating the electoral process and the state’s ability to protect political rights and freedoms, guarantee the rule of law, and ensure the independence of the judiciary.
The Association believes that the recent presidential statement constituted an important step in regulating the electoral process, as it affirmed the state’s full support for the National Elections Authority and its confidence in its independence. It also reinforced respect for the Egyptian judiciary and its crucial role in protecting electoral justice and legitimacy.
The Association points out that reaching the number of 45 constituencies came after a meticulous legal process. The National Elections Authority had previously canceled the results of 19 constituencies based on violations that threatened the integrity of the process. This process was completed after the Supreme Administrative Court issued its rulings on the evening of November 29, 2025, reflecting the state’s commitment to correcting the course and respecting the strict legal rules regulating elections.
The Association affirms that there are legal channels for appealing the results. The intervention of the state’s judiciary in the appeals phase strengthens the integrity of the electoral process and ensures close monitoring of all parties’ adherence to the law. The association emphasizes that these procedures do not weaken or distort the electoral process, but rather represent the application of electoral justice and a means to guarantee the voter’s right to freely choose their representatives according to clear legal procedures and under the supervision of the impartial Egyptian judiciary. This enhances the transparency of the electoral process and strengthens citizens’ trust in it. The association stresses that what was witnessed in the first phase of the elections constitutes a positive precedent, confirming the state’s judiciary’s ability to intervene immediately to address shortcomings and exercise rigorous judicial oversight to ensure the integrity of procedures and protect the will of the voters. The association affirms that re-elections in the annulled districts are a necessary step to guarantee equal opportunities for all candidates and provide an opportunity to rectify performance in accordance with the law. The association concludes by emphasizing the importance of utilizing this phase to bolster confidence in the electoral process through high voter turnout, full adherence to the law and electoral regulations by all candidates, and the exclusion of any candidate proven to be involved in violations that threaten the integrity of the elections. This contributes to safeguarding citizens’ right to freely choose their representatives and building a fair and transparent electoral practice that supports the foundations of the rule of law.
