NADRF, the National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms launches its campaign targeting media professionals “Together for signing and ratifying the Maputo Protocol”
NADRF launched its campaign Today, Friday, June 9, 2023 in Alexandria, with a workshop about the signing and ratifying of the Maputo Protocol by Egypt. The workshop saw the participation of 20 journalists and correspondents of news agencies. The workshop aims to stress the importance of signing and ratifying the protocol as a regional mechanism for women’s rights.
The workshop is held in cooperation with the SOAWR network (Solidarity of African Women Rights), in the presence of Prof. Samia Melki, President of Kadirat, a Tunisian based women rights NGO, and the coordinator of SOAWR in North Africa.
The two-day workshop was led by Mr. Nabil Shalabi, lawyer and human rights expert, and Mr. Shadi Abdel-Karim, lawyer and president of Al-Haq Foundation for Freedom of Opinion, Expression and Human Rights. The trainers introduced and explained issues related to women’s rights under the national legislation and discussed international and regional women mechanisms . At the same time participants were asked to develop media campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of the ratification and signing the protocol.
Following this workshop NADRF will be holding a number of activities in several governorates such as (Luxor – Red Sea – Dakahlia – Port Said) targeting women activists this time.
